I always like to clip corners on the displays I do in our showrooms. I clip, (cut off) the corners with a big or small dot inserted. The size of the cut depends on the size of the dot. On a 12x12 tile I normally use a 1x1 or 2x2 dot or 4 or more smaller pieces of glass or stone to make a unique size dot. read more...

I started out in the tile business helping my father install glass and tile back in the late 1940s when I was 5 years old. I was probably in the way more than helping out, but it got me hooked. The smells of new construction, and the guys who worked the jobs are still in my mind. My father got out of the installation business in the mid 1950s to open up our first tile distribution facility, but I kept installing tile part time, after school and weekends. Back then; when tile was installed we did mud jobs, (tarpaper, wire mesh, then a scratch coat, a finish coat, and after soaking the wall tiles we could finally set them.) Lets take a door jam or a windowsill that has multiple pieces of wood trim. You could take a piece of tile and put a hand saw on top of it and cut out the wood trim (a little extra to allow for thin set,) and slide the tile under the wood or you can make a template. I make a template out of a piece of stiff cardboard. Line up the cardboard piece with the door jam or window trim and using a small square, mark where the cuts need to be made. read more...
