6 Trending Bathroom Renovation Ideas

December 1st, 2021 by Jill Querker

Bathrooms are a hot topic this year since many are trying to create the bathroom oasis of their dreams. Although there's a lot of clear imagery of what's stylish: there are a few trending design choices that are hard to miss.

Any homeowner can implement each of these things and offer you the chance to add some luxury and beauty to your bathrooms.

1. Level Entry Showers

If you want your bathroom to feel larger and seamless: level-entry or curbless, showers are an awesome choice! These showers allow you to step right in and encourage your bathroom to feel like one unit instead of separated spaces.

Looking for design features that work for your lifestyle while also being popular and stylish. Not only do they allow your bathroom to be a space that will be comfortable to use regardless of how long you live there, but they also increase your home's value and attractiveness.  A level entry shower along with TileWare ADA compliant grab bars (which doubles as a towel bar) will give you peace of mind so you can design a bathroom to enjoy for years to come.  A line drain finishes off the look by allowing you to bring your large floor tile straight into the shower without having to switch to a smaller tile.

2. Tile That Does More Than Look Good

We all love tile that looks good: but it should do more than that. Consider choosing a tile from the Hytect collection.  The Hytect collection boasts a vast array of colors, shapes, and sizes all of which have a remarkable surface that cleans without harsh chemicals, fights against viruses, bacteria, and pollutants. Although, at the bare minimum, your tile should be able to handle the moisture that's in the average bathroom, taking it further to allow it to protect your health can be an awesome way to bring it full circle.

Of course, when looking at tiles for your floor, avoid high gloss finishes which can be very slippery when wet or dry.  Different types of tile are rated for walls versus floors, so talk to a tile professional when deciding which type of tile is right for your project.

3. In-Floor Warming Systems

Homes are quickly using things that used to be considered a luxury in our everyday decor and home design. For example, in-floor warming allows you to comfortably step out of your bath or shower, even on the chilliest of days, and feel comfortable when your feet hit the tile.

The better in-floor electric heating options will encourage the shower to dry out and inhibit the growth of mold and mildew, like how DitraHeat does for tiled floors. So not only is it comfortable for you as you live your life, but it's also incredibly useful to ensure that your home functions and looks good, which is always in style.

4. Gorgeous Botanical Looks

Botanical looks allow the outdoors to make their way inside. This can be brought through including multiple greens, choosing bathroom-safe botanical wallpaper, curtains, and other iconic pieces to fill the space. But, of course, the best way to include botanicals is to have plants in your bathroom!

Go for plants that like a lot of moisture and can handle whatever lighting your bathroom gets. Succulents are out of the question since they'll quickly die from all of the humidity in a bathroom, but you can use plants like pothos or snake plants that enjoy this steam.

5. Dark Fixtures and Counters

Dark decor has been making a huge comeback in recent years. For some, this has shown up the most in black bathroom fixtures. Black faucets, lighting fixtures, handles on cabinets, and other iconic pieces in your bathroom will allow every room to look more sleek and polished.

If you want to take this further, black countertops have also become increasingly popular. The only drawback some have found is that in a bathroom that's not well kept, the counter will quickly show toothpaste and soap stains: so consider the commitment to this look before you make it.

6. Back-Lit Mirrors and Cabinets

LED lighting strips have come into home decor with extreme power in recent years.  Lately, home decorators have been putting these strips of light directly behind mirrors, cabinets, and other fixtures in bathrooms. Not only does it allow the bathroom to feel larger, but it also allows the space to feel more naturally lit. Replicating the feeling of how a window lights a room without having to involve the window allows back-lit spaces to feel more modern and sophisticated.

Ensure that when you buy these LED strips, they're moisture and waterproof and have good reviews. Although you can purchase strips of lights for incredibly cheap, our bathrooms (even if they have excellent filtration for steam) carry a lot of moisture, so you must keep that in mind with every perk and fixture you add.

Your Bathroom Should Feel Like a Retreat

Regardless of how large your bathroom is, or whether it's attached to the master bedroom or not: every bathroom should feel like an escape from the world. Somewhere that you can stop and breathe while you wash your hair or prepare for a long day. By completing any of these renovations, you can bring any bathroom closer to that ideal.
